About Forex

FOREX are quoted as a currency pair known as a “cross”. FOREX trades involve the simultaneous buying of one currency and selling of another. This means an investor is speculating in prospect that one currency is appreciating or depreciating in value in relation to the other.

The term base currency and quote (or price or counter) currency are used to refer to each currency with a cross. The first currency is the base currency and the second is the quote currency. Using the EURUSD cross as an example, Euro is the base currency and USD is the quote currency.

The majors refer to the most commonly traded and hence most liquid currencies: US Dollar (USD), Euro (EUR), Japanese Yen (JPY), British Pound (GBP), Swiss Franc (CHF), Canadian Dollar (CAD), and Australian Dollar (AUD).
